Alison Evans
Alison joined the practice in 1981. She worked full time in the practice for 10 years but developed a significant interest in medical education and research resulting in the need to reduce her clinical commitment. Clinically takes the lead on care of older people. She currently works three sessions within the practice, but from January 2003 will take on a further session to resume her role as GP trainer and practice education lead. She is a part-time senior lecturer in the Academic Unit of Primary Care, University of Leeds School of Medicine, and also works 3 sessions a week as Associate Director of Postgraduate General Practice Education for the Yorkshire Deanery.
Ian Sangster
Ian brought five and a half years of general practice experience to Earby when he joined the team in 1998, having previously been a partner at a practice in Lossiemouth , Scotland . He is our nominated ‘senior partner', a title which is liked by the patients and required by the finance department of the PCT, but which does not mean that he needs to make all our decisions, preferring as we do to have a healthy debate about most issues and reach a consensus opinion. Clinically he takes the lead on diabetes. Ian is a GP registrar trainer, has involvement with medical student training, and takes a healthy interest in the surgery accounts.
Phil Huxley

Phil joined the practice in 1998 having completed his VTS on the local Airedale scheme. He is an organiser. He coordinates the monthly clinical meetings. Clinically he has developed an interest in the treatment of drug misuse and he tends to take the lead with these patients. Until recently he held a clinical assistant post in genito-urinary medicine. He currently takes the lead with medical student training and is also involved in the out of hours co-operative directors' meetings.
Esther Smith
Esther joined the practice in 2000. She trained and completed her VTS in Scotland , but always planned to work closer to her roots in Lancashire. Esther leads on women's health issues and teenage health, but remains interested in all aspects of general practice. She is keen to maintain an academic interest in general practice and uses the literature on a day-to-day basis to inform her practice. She is keen to teach: she has involvement with undergraduate training and has undertaken the preparation to be a trainer of GP registrars, planning to start in February 2003.
Mike Horsfield
Mike spent 6 months here as a registrar. When we had an unexpected vacancy due to Steve Holmes leaving, the practice was keen for Mike to return and thankfully, so was he. Mike qualified in Newcastle and worked for 5 years in medical posts. He then moved closer to home and joined the Airedale VTS. His main interests lie in respiratory medicine and IT.
Jo Huxley
Jo joined us more recently on a part time basis.
Ben Whittaker
Ben has been working with us during and beyond Dr Smith's maternity leave. He has recently joined the practice at Bentham but still works at Earby one or two days a week.
