Nurses
Our practice nurses provide a wide range of services including monitoring of chronic diseases such as blood pressure, heart failure, diabetes and asthma.
They provide family planning advice, well woman checks, health promotion, some minor surgical procedures and travel immunisation. They perform blood tests, ear syringing, removal of sutures and provide dressings. At busy times patients attending the surgery for emergency appointments may be asked to see one of the practice nurses who may be able to offer advice or prescribe for minor illnesses.
Community Midwives
We have a midwife from Airedale General Hospital and a midwife from Burnley General Hospital attached to the practice. They are responsible for all aspects of maternity care. They each work with a team of midwives to provide, as far as possible, 24 hour care.
Health Visitors
We have three health visitors allied with us (based at Butt's clinic) who are specially trained to advise on the care of children, nursing mothers, the elderly and those with learning difficulties. Contact number: 668405 during working hours.
District Nurses
There are three district nurses attached to the practice who provide nursing services in the home. They work with other district nurses to provide care seven days per week.
Home Visits
-
The time taken on a home visit can be used to see 4-5 patients at the surgery.
-
Home visits are provided for the terminally ill, disabled and housebound.
-
Please do not ask the doctor to visit unless you are too ill to come to surgery.
-
Assessment at the surgery is to your advantage since it allows a comprehensive examination to take place which may not always be possible in your home.
-
It is helpful if requests for home visits can be made between 8.30am and 10.00am.
-
Home visits are made at the doctor's discretion.
Sick notes
Sick notes will be provided for the second and subsequent week of an illness. It is not necessary to obtain a note for the first week of an illness. You should telephone your employer and make arrangements to complete a self-certification form (SSP) to cover the first week of absence. Should your employer insist on a medical certificate for the first week of illness then we are able to provide a private certificate. There is a charge for this service.
Results of tests
The doctor or nurse will advise you how long the results of your tests will take. Please telephone before noon for the results and the receptionist will advise you how to proceed. Please note that we ask you to phone for the results of all tests. Unfortunately we do not have the resources to individually contact patients to routinely inform them of results. Furthermore it should be noted that we are unable to provide results to anyone other than the patient, unless they are under 16 years of age, except under special circumstances. Please understand that this is due to our confidentiality policy.
